4-star OG John Simpson gives Gator visit a 10

It is hard to overstate the importance to offensive line recruiting for the Florida Gators in the 2016 class and one of the key figures on the board is North Charleston (SC) Fort Dorchester massive offensive lineman John Simpson.  The Gators rolled out the red carpet for the big man and his parents this weekend and made a big impression.

According to John Simpson, his visit with Florida was a pretty good one. When asked to rate the visit from 1-10, he quickly answered “10”.

“It was great!” he exclaimed. “I had a good time.”

From others that saw the interaction and from Simpson himself, one of the key components for the weekend was the time he got to spend with Florida’s second year offensive line coach Mike Summers. He was looking forward to spending time with Summers before the visit and that time on campus was something he really liked.

“I loved being able to talk to Coach Summers in a closer way,” Simpson said. “He is awesome and I love his coaching style.”

Simpson who says he “likes the offense a lot”, also says that the Florida players were a positive to take away from the trip as well.

“The players were a big part in the whole thing,” he said. “They treated me like their brothers. I was hosted by Nick Buchanan and Fred Johnson and they both were like brothers to me.”

Florida seemed to boost themselves with Simpson who he says is at the top of the heap with a couple of others.

“They are up there with LSU and Clemson,” he said.

He has an official visit scheduled for Clemson next weekend and the home state school will certainly be a tough one to pull him away from.  In the meantime, what he will remember most from his Gator visit are the people in charge of the program.

“The biggest impression of the place I had was how much their coaches care,” he said.

When all is said and done, he knows what he will base his final decision on.

“It is going to be where my family feels comfortable and where I feel the most comfortable,” he said.
