Gator Gauge: Defensive Florida Targets

With National Signing Day just under two weeks away, Scout's takes a look at where they stand with a couple of defensive targets. Who is trending towards Florida?

Gator Gauge is back, but this time is looking at where Florida stands with its top targets on the defensive side of the ball with ten days to go before National Signing Day.

**Note: If you see a down or even arrow, it does not mean that Florida is out with this recruit. It just means at this moment nothing has changed (even) or the last few days this recruit is talking to another school. As always recruiting can be very fluid. Don't panic.

Long time Florida pledge Vosean Joseph is trending back to the Gators. In the beginning of the week the three-star linebacker kept talking about how great his official to Alabama was. However, on Thursday night, when connected back with Joseph, he was all about returning home to Gainesville this weekend for his official visit.

"I am very excited," said the  linebacker from Miami Norland High. "I saved the best for last."

Gators certainly can secure it this weekend.

Brian Burns remains high on Florida, but the Gators have some competition. The five-star defensive end will visit Gainesville officially this weekend, however, Florida State continues to hover around. Burns' plan is to split next weekend to two officials: Alabama and FSU.

Things are not looking good for Florida when it comes to Dontavious Jackson. Although Jackson told Scout his visit to Florida was very "impactful" and was a 9.5 out of 10, Texas remains the team to beat.

His finalists include: Florida State, Alabama, Florida, Michigan and Texas.

Kristian Fulton is high on Florida, but things are a little bumpy. The Gators have yet to find a defensive back coach, which could harm their chance to land Fulton. The four-star corner is set to visit Arkansas this weekend and then Gainesville on Jan. 29th. If the Gators have a plan to show him on that trip things could clear up. However right now, the trend meter is showing red.

Jaleel Laguins has been shopping around for a different school after Mark Richt left Georgia, however, the Bulldogs pledge might be having a change of heart.

As reported on Sunday, Laguins has decided to visit Athens on the final official weekend before signing day. He officially visit Alabama this weekend, and he has already visited Florida last weekend.

The big question for Florida pledge Jeawon Taylor: who will coach the defensive backs? With uncertainly over his position coach and the increased interest from new Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, there are plenty of obstacles for Florida to keep its man.

Taylor has two more officials: Maryland this weekend and Florida next weekend. Although, he has already visited Georgia, it looks like it will be a battle between the Bulldogs and the Gators for the playmaker.

Lyndell Wilson is set to take his official to Florida on Jan. 29 and thats when his recruitment will make any significant turns. Right now Jim McElwain's team should be considered the favorite, however, as Bob Redman pointed out in the video, he assumes Wilson will be a Gator on signing day, but he is not ready to add him to the mock class.

Wilson is visiting Alabama this weekend.

Joshua Uche is down to three: AuburnMichigan and Florida. It is not surprising that the Gators made the cut. Uche has never been shy about his love for the in-state school. He is visiting Ann Arbor this weekend and will visit Gainesville next week. The Wolverines are a new offer, but Uche had a relationship with their new defenisve coordinator Don Brown, when Brown offered him at Boston College.

However, with his decision coming on signing day, the Gators have the final say. You have to like Florida's chances.

Dee Walker is still waiting for an offer from Florida. If it comes, expect this to change in a hurry-as in commitment watch hurry.
