Huge Official Visitors for Final Push

It is the last official visit weekend of the 2016 recruiting cycle and the Florida Gators are hosting their largest group of visitors. Of the seven coming in, only two are not committed to Florida and so the big names left will get the hard sell.

The list of visitors includes mostly out-of-state prospects with five of them coming from outside of Florida and four from the state of Alabama. The Gators are hoping to solidify the entire group and then earn the trust of receiver Tyrie Cleveland (committed to Houston) and cornerback Kristian Fulton (not committed).

Here is a breakdown of the visitors.

Story Line: The Alabama running back capped off his high school career with back-to-back 1500 yard rushing seasons and is a hard-nosed runner with flashes of quickness. Florida got on him early, offered him at camp where he committed shortly after, and he has stayed true to his commitment even after the home state Crimson Tide came in hard and offered. He’s been a text book example of what you are looking for in both a prospect and a recruit.

Story Line: Cleveland was the best receiver at the Under Armour All-American practices last month and his ranking portrays what kind of prospect he is. Currently committed to Houston, Cleveland has opened up his commitment and has taken official visits to TCU and Arkansas this month. He’s coming off of a nice visit with the Razorbacks and the Gators are really going to have to impress here. He’s a former resident of Jacksonville and will be on the visit with fellow prospect Rick Wells, who he has known well since middle school. Florida has a legitimate shot to turn Cleveland’s commitment, and they certainly would like to.

Story Line: Wells is a big bodied receiver with the ability to catch the deep ball. In a run oriented offense, his senior stats weren’t glowing, but he has the physical tools this staff is looking for in a receiver. Wells was the first commitment in the Florida class and has stayed true to that commitment throughout. He has taken a couple of visits this month (USF and Virginia Tech), but has remained committed. He’s ben to Florida numerous times and almost every home game for the last two years. This week is for fun and to sell his good friend on being here.

Story Line: Moon is a hard hitting linebacker from Alabama that has the build of a future prototype at the position. He will have to put on some weight, but he is a bone crushing hitter and can run with the best of them at the position. Moon committed shortly after the Friday Night Lights camp in July and has stayed committed. He promised he would make an official visit to Mississippi State before he committed and he stayed true to that promise, but he never wavered a bit on his commitment.

Story Line: Hard hitting safety from Alabama that saw his stock improve a great bit during his senior year because of terrific play on the field. Taylor has been committed since the summer and has stayed true to his commitment. He did take an official visit to Georgia two weeks ago and has been pressed hard by new Georgia head coach Kirby Smart who recruited Taylor while at Alabama. While never offering him at Alabama, Smart has made him a priority with the Bulldogs. Jeawon will be visiting Florida with his mom this weekend and the Gators need to have a strong visit for him.

Story Line: Lenton is a super athlete forom Mississippi that has the range and the length that the staff covets for the position. He's a guy that was previously committed to Mississippi State but de-committed and jumped on board with Florida back in the spring. Geoff Collins was a major pull here and the staff couldn't feel better about getting Lenton on signing day. He's a guy that was a real worry to flip, but never took a visit anywhere else and stayed true to his word.

Story Line: Fulton is an elite corner prospect and showed that against the best during the Under Armour All-American week last month. From Louisiana, it is always hard to pull from the state. Fulton has made no secret about liking Florida but recently named LSU his leader. Fulton is a prime target and in the way right now is not having a defensive back’s coach and the staff also needs to do good sell job on the family.

Story Line: Nelson is a tall, athletic cornerback who also is an all-state point guard on his high school basketball team. He was a late offer for Florida at a big position of need. He committed shortly after being offered and has stayed true to his commitment. He will be riding in here with three fell Alabama stars on the trip this weekend.

Story Line: Another corner with good height that had a really terrific senior season. He was offered by Randy Shannon in the summer and committed shortly after. He’s taken a couple of January visits elsewhere but remained committed to the Gators.
