Gator Gauge: A Look at Florida's Board

National signing day is just five days away. Florida remains in the thick of things with several targets as that day approaches. FightinGators.com takes a look at the "Gator Gauge" to see who is trending towards Florida.

Florida is looking to finish strong with its 2016 class. The Gators got hit with some pretty tough news on Thursday losing out on two of its top targets, however, not everything is lost. Jim McElwain could a few more pledges to this class before it's all said and done.

We check in with the "Gator Gauge" on the eve of the Gators' big recruiting weekend, and just five days away from National Signing Day.

TREND:

Arkansas impressed Tyrie Cleveland on his official visit last weekend, however, things remain the same as far as Florida goes. The Gators have the last shot at the Houston pledge when he visits with his family. The wide receiver still has connections to Jacksonville and is very close with pledge Rick Wells. Florida has a good chance to flip Cleveland.

TREND:

Things are very fluid days before signing day and top target five-star defensive end Brian Burns is a prime example.  After weeks of trending towards the Gators, things are taking a turn towards Florida State. As Bob Redman wrote on this post , it seemed like the Gators did everything right last weekend when Burns visited - many players confirmed with myself or Bob that they were confident Burns would join the class. Now fast forward to Thursday, where Burns did not visit Alabama and is set to visit FSU and close friend Nick Eubanks (also a big Florida lean) committed to Michigan. Coach Rumph is keeping Florida in there, but when it comes to family pressures, can Florida battle Burns' brother and keep the Noles at bay?

TREND:

Nothing new to report on Kristian Fulton. The good news here is that he is taking the visit, so he is willing to listen. How far that will go remains to be seen. LSU continues to be the team to beat with Fulton.

TREND:

Things also remain the same with offensive line target Malcolm Pridgeon. The five-star JUCO tackle is expected to visit Ohio State this weekend.  Pridgeon has kept everything close to the chest in his recruitment. All we can say is what Bob has been telling you from the beginning, the staff feel good about their chances.

TREND:

So why is there an arrow trending up and an arrow saying things are even for John Simpson? It's simple. Florida made huge gains with the four-star lineman out of South Carolina. Before his official visitor, the Gators were a distant choice among the in-state schools: South Carolina and Clemson. Fast forward a couple of weeks and Florida impresses Simpson on his official visit to the Swamp. Now not only are the Gators neck and neck with the Tigers, but Simpson eliminated the Gamecoacks from consideration.Although Florida's stock continues to rise with Simpson, the Gators still have a little work to do against Clemson.
