Gators a 2-seed playing at North Florida in NIT

The Florida Gators will be extending their 2015-2016 season in the National Invitation Tournament as they will travel to Jacksonville to play the University of North Florida Tuesday at 9 p.m. The Gators (2-seed) are seeded higher than the Ospreys (7-seed) but due to the construction going on in the O’Connell Center, the Gators will travel to Jacksonville to play.

After missing the post season a year ago Mike White’s inaugural season as the head coach has shown improvement.  The Gators will take a still relatively young team to Jacksonville to play and can use this as a building experience for the future of White’s program.

The UNF Ospreys finished the season 22-11 and 10-4 in the Atlantic-Sun Conference. They lost to Florida Gulf Coast in the conference tournament that was hosted by UNF.  FGCU went on to win the Atlantic-Sun tournament and get the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Florida (19-14) finished tied for 8th in the Southeastern Conference which as a league had to be disappointed to only get three teams in the NCAA Tournament. LSU declined an invite to post season and they likely would have gotten an NIT bid, but the Gators join 1-seed South Carolina, 3- seed Georgia, and 5-seed Alabama in the overall tournament field.

The Gators were placed in the same bracket quadrant with overall number one seed Monmouth. Florida would have to beat UNF and the winner of Ohio State / Akron in order to match up with Monmouth on their home court.
