Senior place kicker Austin Hardin will not be playing football for the University of Florida anymore according to sources. Hardin, who made just 16 field goals on 36 attempts in his career, was the target of much criticism from fans and others about his performance on the field.
With a booming leg, the former under-Armour All-American struggled as a freshman going just 4-of-12, before snapping back as a sophomore and hitting a solid 7-of-10 field goals in 2014. Hus junior season was quite an adventure with both missed field goals and injuries. He finished just 5-of-14 in 2015 and as chastised for his regular performance.
Hardin was the hero of the day against Vanderbilt in 2015. With 2:12 minutes left in the game and having been benched for some time for poor performance, Hardin was brought on to the field to try a 43-yard field goal. The ball sailed through the uprights and the Gators would go on to win the contest 9-7.
Fightin’ Gators has yet to learn where Hardin will be heading, but we will stay on top of this. Jim McElwain will be addressing the media Monday at noon although whether he addresses this topic we are unsure.
