Tampa Jefferson teammates Marcellus and Stephens visit Gators

Tampa Jefferson star offensive tackle Jean Marcellus and defensive end Jabreel Stephens were on hand for Florida’s scrimmage Friday and both came away impressed and liking the visit to Gainesville.

The Gators are always in need of quality offensive linemen and that is what you get with Jean Marcellus. The big man liked what he saw off the field and feels Florida will be making moves up front on the field.

“It was good,” he said of the visit. “I had a nice time over there. The atmosphere is good and the facility was nice.

“I think they can be really effective in the run game and really powerful to get the ball moving.”

While on campus, Marcellus had a chance to talk with the staff about being a Gator. Head Coach Jim McElwain and offensive line coach Mike Summers both spoke to the young man.

“I talked to Coach McElwain and Coach Summers,” he said. “They told me they were going to come down and see me in the spring and they really like my work ethic.”

Without an offer to Florida yet, the Gators are expected to really have to review thatwhen they see him in the spring because he is a prospect who is getting better rather quickly.

“College coaches tell me they really like how much I rapidly improve my craft,” he said.

As for his plans for the rest of spring and summer, he will be doing a lot.

“I am planning on visiting a lot of schools in the summer and I might come back (to Florida) for summe,” he said. camp.

Teammate Jabreel Stephens no doubt battles Marcellus every day in practice and is at a position a program like Florida can never have too many.  The defensive end liked what he saw on his visit to Gainesville.

“It was great,” Stephens said. “I had a good time seeing the players out there practicing and competing with each other.

“The defense was solid. It is definitely something I can see myself being a part of.”

Just like Marcellus, the Gators want to be sure to come by and check out Stephens in May when he is working out with his team.

“I talked to Coach Rumph and Coach McElwain a little bit,” he said. “They said they’re interested in me. Coach Rumph plans on coming to see me during spring practice.

“Coaches tell me they like my size, my athleticism, and my versatility.”

Stephens saw enough at Florida to know he wants to check it out again.

“I’m not sure when, but I plan on being back soon,” he said.
