The Gators beat UCF 8-0 (five innings) to advance through the NCAA Gainesville Regional and move on to the NCAA Super Regionals. This is Florida’s ninth Super Regional berth in ten seasons.
“Very happy for our players, not only the present players, but for the former players and the legacy they built and the tradition that Florida softball is,” head coach Tim Walton said. “Florida softball is a household name now and that wouldn’t be possible without all those players that have sacrificed a ton and have found a way to get W’s in Regionals.”
Aleshia Ocasio was dominant again on the mound, only allowing three hits in the game. But the offense was equally as good; a six run burst in the bottom of the fourth inning proved to be the dagger against a well-rounded Knights team. Amanda Lorenz stretched her hitting streak to four games while Taylore Fuller and Kirsti Merritt improved their streaks to three games.
The Gators will now host Georgia next weekend in the Super Regionals.
