"It feels great to get the offer from Florida," said Barnes. "I am very blessed to get it."
The Gators offered Barnes after his performance at their offensive line/defensive line camp last Friday.
"I've been watching them for a while, and I was really excited when I received the offer," he added. "It wasn't one I was expecting but it was something that I was really grateful to get."
The Apopka lineman was offered by offensive line coach, Mike Summers. Although Barnes was not able to tour around the Swamp and the facilities during his short time on campus, he was able to take in Summers' coaching style.
"I liked it [Summers' coaching style] a lot. I love the way he coaches," said Barnes. "I feel like the way he coaches is something that I wouldn't mind having for four years in college."
Barnes admits that he grew up watching both Florida and Florida State. Although he doesn't know a lot about the university itself, he has a few insider tips from not only watching UF play, but through a former high school teammate.
"I already know that they are coming out strong next season," he said. "I also know the guard that goes there, Martez Ivey, he also went to Apopka."
Barnes and Ivey have known each other for years.
"We've been good friends when I played freshman year. I've known him for a while, and we still keep in touch when he is in Florida."
Barnes had not yet spoken to Ivey about his new offer from Florida, however, considering Ivey was already hyping up the Gators before the offer, Barnes expects Ivey to be in his ear a lot.
"He was already talking to me before [about the Gators]," Barnes joked. "He hasn't said anything yet, but I think he will soon."
Apart from the schools that have offered, Clemson and Florida State have also shown interest. Barnes hopes to make a few visits this summer to begin learning about the programs.
"I am planning to go to all the schools that have interest in me, and than go to some camps to see how they are like as well." he said. "Clemson, South Carolina, Miami, and I'm going to go back to Florida on Saturday. I also am going to Florida State camps, Kentucky camps as well."
Despite having plenty of time until National Signing Day 2018, these visits will allow Barnes to already see which programs check off a few boxes.
"I look at the football team, but I also want to look at the education of the school. I want to know the school, how my education is going to look for the next four years."
