Florida uses morning workout to allow freshmen chance to gain comfort before tonight's debut at The Swamp....

The Gators focused primarily on special teams during a short scrimmage Wednesday morning. Coach Ron Zook said he used the early workout to prepare for this evening's first appearance in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

"We slowed it down a little bit in terms of teaching," Zook said. "We had this for the younger guys so they have a good feeling of what's going on tonight."

During the workout, freshman punter Eric Wilbur appeared more consistent than his competition. He dropped a punt early in practice, but then picked up his game for the remainder of the morning.

"We brought Eric Wilbur to be the guy," Zook said. "I feel like our punting game will be much improved. It better be."

Zook said he hopes to use tonight's scrimmage to sort through the depth chart and evaluate the Gators' progress.

"We want to see where we're at with the first groups," Zook said. "We're just going to let them play and see what happens. Not a lot of situation stuff. We're going to give the quarterbacks a chance to play and see what the younger guys can do."

Tonight's scrimmage begins at 6:30 p.m. and will finish up around 8:45 p.m. Check back at FightinGators.com for comprehensive coverage of the event from Jeff Darlington and Brady Ackerman.
