Coach Ron Zook said he was impressed with the offense's ability to move the ball down field in stressful situations.
The defense, however, continued to look dismal in comparison, using a timeout during the drive downfield.
"Coach Strong has to remember he isn't going get a timeout," said Zook, poking fun at the new defensive coordinator. "We gave him a timeout to help him. He's got to plan on going without timeouts. They need to know when they have to hurry and when they can't hurry,"
The Gators will work on more goal-line and short-yardage situations tonight.
NO WORRIES: Zook remained confident in the defense's ability to bounce back from a lackluster Wednesday scrimmage. As he pointed out, the defense struggled in the first scrimmage of the spring.
"Every year, one scrimmage one side of the ball will do well," Zook said. "The next scrimmage the other side does well."
In regards to stopping the run, Zook said he will rely on the entire group because of the lack of one true standout.
"It may be a question mark because you're concerned about whose going to be there," he said. "Like I said, we're not going to count on one person to handle a position. That takes pressure off the guys and keeps us fresh. I think that's going to be a big plus."
INJURIES: Mo Mitchell, who didn't practice Friday morning, underwent an MRI to check on a knee injury he suffered during Thursday's workout.
Zook said he saw Mitchell in the morning, and he appeared to be recovering.
"He said he was fine," Zook said. "He wasn't fine but he didn't seem concerned."
Check back tonight at 9:30 p.m. for player reactions to the day's workout, plus much more…
