Florida DB Quincy Wilson is seeing huge improvements in the secondary and the Gators offense.

GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- Florida's Quincy Wilson has seen plenty of improvements from his Gators. The defensive back not only grades the men on the secondary, but Wilson is confident the men on the side of the ball are in the best position to succeed.

Quincy Wilson  and the Gators took to the field for the first time on Thursday. Although he admits the team was a bit "rusty," there is confidence that the team is on the right track. As a junior Wilson is expected to see more snaps this season along with top corner, Jalen Tabor. However, Wilson is confident that even the younger defensive backs will be able to step in when needed.

“Chauncey Gardner, of course, is one [of the younger guys standing out," he said.  "He’s been playing really well. He came in as an early enrollee, so he really did have more time to get ready. Also, Jeawon (Taylor) and Quincy (Lenton), they’ve been doing a good job also of picking up the playbook and making plays out there.”

Wilson provides a good perspective on the guys in the secondary, however, he is also a great judge of where things stand offensively.

"The offense, we have better quarterbacks in here now. There’s no secret about that. There’s a lot more chemistry in guys getting the ball. Everything’s looking good on the offensive side. It’s coming along."

According to Wilson, the freshmen wide receivers have assimilated well to the team, proving themselves.

“We’ve got some good receivers, finally. Not saying that the other guys haven’t been, but the offense has been a little slow. Tyrie Cleveland, he’s been really good out there. Rick Wells also. [Josh] Hammond and those guys have been looking real well. But also our guys are. I feel like the competition from them is making them play better. Brandon Powell and Ahmad (Fulwood) and C.J. (Worton). They’ve all been picking it up and looking a lot better in practice."

Although the receivers have improved, Wilson jokes the DBs do enjoy plenty of wins during one-on-ones.  "We’re still holding it down," joked Wilson. "But they’ve been getting better, though.”

Wilson admits last year's run to the SEC Championship Game has helped this team believe in themselves.

“I feel like last year did a lot for us," he said. "It feels like we’re a championship team. We all believe now. Last year was hard to believe because the past couple of years have been slow here. So finally when we started winning games last year, we started believing. Now, we already believe, so we’ve just got to get it done.”
