Monday Evening Practice Report

Zook says Starks could remain at right guard....

As the season nears closer, a position change that once seemed temporary may stick through the season opener.

Florida coach Ron Zook said Max Stark's jump to right guard from left tackle continues to provide the offensive line with an effective combination

"I think it's getting permanent," Zook said.

As a result, the competition has heated up where Starks left his vacancy. Tavares Washington, a junior college transfer, and Jonathan Colon are both alternating with the first team.

"There's a battle over there with Tavares and Colon," Zook said. "I think it's going to give us a chance to get the five best guys on the field."

Since the end of last season, the redshirt sophomore suffered through knee surgery and back surgery. He also was kicked off the team and reinstated for academic reasons.

NO EXPLANATIONS: True freshman Johnny Dingle, who impressed coaches since his arrival at Florida, showed up to practice late and wasn't dressed in pads.

Both his position coach and Zook said they didn't know the reason.

"He didn't come out dressed out, and I don't know why," Zook said. "We were already at practice, so I don't know why he wasn't."

STEPPING UP: Senior walk-ons Casey Griffith and Johnny Lamar on were placed on scholarship Monday.

Griffith, a game captain five times last season, was among the most consistent players on special teams, while Lamar continues to battle for a starting job at cornerback.

INJURY UPDATE: Offensive lineman Ryan Carter left the evening practice on crutches because of a sprained left ankle.
