Report: Gators' Dre Massey out for the year

It appears that junior starting receiver Dre Massey is out for the year with an injury according to a report on Twitter by Gainesville Sun Editorialist Pat Dooley.

Dre Massey was destined to be a big part of the offense in 2016. He went to the sideline early in the game against UMass Saturday night and was treated, before re-entering and leaving the field again shortly after.

Dooley, who has been reporting on the Gators for decades, tweeted this Sunday afternoon.

The Gators were terribly short-handed at the receiver position before the game started. Freshmen Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells were suspended from the contest because of an incident involving a BB gun over the summer. Senior Chris Thompson didn’t play because of a suspension as well. Junior C.J. Worton was also out for the contest as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain.

Powell was expected to be used in many capacities which may have included taking the snap as a quarterback, lining up at running back, returning kickoffs, etc. His loss is a big one for a Florida team that has been trying to find some answers in terms of play making ability on offense.

Stay tuned as we try and get official word on his status here at Fightin’ Gators.
