Florida kicker Eddy Pineiro has career night against UMass on Saturday

GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- Eddy Pineiro is slowly becoming one of the most popular characters for Gators fans. The Florida kicker attempted and made his first career field goal in the win over UMass, and he was quite the offensive weapon when his team struggled. Pineiro discusses his first time playing at The Swamp.

Florida fans have a special connection with the No. 15 jersey. The jersey worn by former quarterback Tim Tebow is often paraded around The Swamp by fans, however, another No. 15 is coming into the spotlight this season. It isn't often a kicker receives chants and standing ovations from fans in Gainesville, but Eddy Pineiro is certainly changing the attitude at UF.

Pineiro played in the Swamp for the first time on Saturday in Florida's 24-7 win over UMass and his leg was certainly a game changer.

“That guy can really kick,” said Florida head coach Jim McElwain. “I’m so glad he’s here.”

Pineiro made three field goals on Saturday, a 41-yarder, a 48-yarder and a 49-yarder. The 41-yarder was his first career field goal.

He becomes the first Florida kicker since 2006 to make three field goals of 40 plays yards in a single game. Pineiro discusses his role in the game and more in the video above.
