Jaylin Simpson might only be a 2019 prospect, but the cornerback from Georgia is already earning some attention from college programs. Simpson holds offers from: LSU, Ohio State, Tennessee and more recently Florida.
"It means a lot [to pick up an offer from the Gators]," said Simpson. "Florida is a big time school who has put DBs in the league."
Simpson picked up his offer from UF after his visit to The Swamp to see Florida host North Texas.
"It was crazy," he said. The Gators have "intense fans."
According to the Frederica Academy playmaker, he liked "how friendly everyone was." at the game from the staff to the fans. However, one of the most impressive things he saw was the defense. In UF's win over the Mean Green, Geoff Collins' men yielded only 53 yards to the visitors, while the DB unit were able to pick off the quarterback a few times.
"The way they flew around was great, especially the DBs," he said. "[Florida defensive back] Coach [Torrian] Gray coaches those guys well."
Simpson first met Gray when he visited with fellow teammate, Jashawn Sheffield, who also holds an offer from Florida, in July.
"They [the Florida coaches] just want me to be a part of the 2019 class," said Simpson. "Coach [Gray] is cool. He has that swag about him. I like him. He's the only coach we talk to, and he's the only coach who has come to my school."
Simpson has plenty of time before he is required to make a decision, and he plans to take that time to learn more about the Gators.
"I want to learn more about the academics and educational support staff for players and stuff like that."
He also hopes to take a few more visits this fall.
I hope to visit Tennessee soon... Ohio state in October," he said. "I just want a place where I feel at home. Also I would like to see if playing basketball is an option."
Simpson also plays point guard for his high school team.null
