The Florida staff was out in full force this week, dropping in on a lot of the region’s best athletes. One they made sure to go see was Kai-Leon Herbert of Ft. Lauderdale’s American Heritage School. Assistant Randy Shannon recruits the area and made sure to stop in and see Herbert.
“They are showing me a lot of things and just how I can still be a part of something great over there,” Herbert said late Thursday evening. “ (Offensive line) Coach Summers tells me he still wants me to be a part of the family and that’s great.”
Herbert said the he and the staff still talk “2-3 times a week” and says teammates Marco Wilson and James Houston, currently committed to the Gators are “all over me every day, it never stops,” with a laugh.
Shannon wanted to gauge the interest and make sure that the gators could secure a visit weekend for Herbert to officially visit. That deal was accomplished.
“Yea I am visiting last week in Jan most likely,” he said.
Herbert has been to Gainesville and seen Florida a few times. He understands the situation at his position and that is something that has his attention. He also stated what he likes about what he has seen at Florida.
“I know I have to compete with people for a job, but everything about UF screams opportunity,” he said. “(I just like) the family environment and how they care for you and get the best out of you.”
