Brandon Powell is ready to introduce the Hawkeyes to speed

The Florida Gators got back to the practice field on Thursday as they prepare for the Outback Bowl Game with Iowa on January 2, in Tampa. A busy time for the team with final exams going on this week, the Gators had to get back into the swing of things. Junior receiver Brandon Powell believes they have something to prove.

Ten plus days after playing in the SEC Championship Game, Florida resumed practice in order to end the season on a high note. Day one was about getting their legs back under them and getting the juices going.

“It was kind of tough,” Brandon Powell said of Thursday before stating they were productive. “We had a week off getting ready for exams and stuff. Today was just getting everybody back in the groove and everything. It was a great practice.”

The Gators will travel just a couple of miles south to play in Tampa, a wonderful city with lots to do for the team. For this team and these players, it will be a new experience.

“I wish I was going out of Florida,” Powell said. “I’ve never played football in Tampa, so I am just happy to get there.”

The Iowa Hawkeyes travel down from the Big Ten Conference and bring them a nasty, physical attitude on the field. Powell knows the gators have to be braced for a physical game, but believes they have something the Hawkeyes aren’t ready for as well.

“They’re a big team,” he said. “They have some big guys, they’re physical, but they’ve never seen speed like us. It will be fun to play them.”

Powell and his teammates understand the importance of winning the game in Tampa. They also understand they are facing a formidable opponent and are adamant they will be prepared.

“We know how big this game is,” Powell said. “Iowa beat Michigan, so we know how good Iowa is. We’ll be ready when that time comes.”
