Gators add hard hitting LB Lacedrick Brunson

He was a name that came up very late in the process, but Florida defensive coordinator Randy Shannon knows his linebackers and the Gators decided to make that late move for Miami Jackson linebacker Lacedrick Brunson. He decided he liked that move and committed to the Gators on his visit to Gainesville over the weekend.

Excited about the prospects of joining a top ten defense, Brunson couldn’t hold back when he was in town and just had to let the Gator staff know.

“I feel that the Gators can be a great opportunity for me so much that I committed on the spot,” he said.

While on campus for the first time, Brunson couldn’t help notice the orange and blue everywhere. He also loves the style of play, an aggressive style that fits him to a tee.

“I loved Florida due to the Gator atmosphere and I feel like I would fit in good with the Gator defense which is also in need of more linebackers,” he said.

Brunson made the five hour trek from Miami with his mother and his brother. He said mom was particularly pleased with everything she saw.

“She loved it and was excited for me,” he said.

Shannon has coached many a super star player at the linebacker position. He will have two of his players likely go high in the NFL Draft in April, just two of dozens. And there is a lot for Shannon to like about Brunson.

“I play very aggressive,” he said. “I’m always looking to get to the ball and make the most plays on the defense.”

Stay tuned to Fightin’ Gators as we bring you more from Brunson in the following days.
