"I had a great time at Florida," said John Campbell about his weekend trip to Gainesville. "Just the coaching staff, Coach Mac [head coach Jim McElwain] and all the other coaches were great. The new coach, [offensive line] coach [Brad] Davis, is a cool coach. He can make me become a better player and a better man, make me as a man. It's not about the four year plan, it's about the 40 year plan."
Campbell's interaction with Davis is among the top things that stood out about Florida.
"I was impressed because he he isn't like some other coaches. He was real with you," said the Dr. Phillips offensive tackle. "He is going to be straight with you. How his personality was and how he wants his players to be also was something I liked it."
Although Campbell did leave campus without an offer, he received some encouraging words from the staff.
"They said I am an amazing player and I am very athletic," he said. "The message was to be a better person. It's not about who you are on the field it's about who you are off the field."
Campbell has plenty of suitors already, however. Auburn, Tennessee, Miami, Boston College, Duke, Georgia LSU, UNC and NC State are just some of the programs that have offered the Orlando native.
"Auburn, Tennessee and Miami are the schools that are recruiting me the hardest right now," said Campbell. "I like that, you know some schools will offer you but they won't talk to you anymore, but Auburn, Tennessee and Miami and Florida, even though they haven't offered, all those schools keep in touch with me. Like they really care about their players, they don't care about recruiting. They really care about getting to know you."
The schools that have showed him an early interest are certainly the programs Campbell will remember when national signing day roams around.
"Thats real big because I know they have my back, and I got theirs if I'm playing for them, on the field and off the field."
