“It’s definitely an honor and I’m humbled to win the award, especially with so many great players in the SEC,” said Canyon Barry after he was named SEC Sixth Man of the year. “When I came to Florida I didn’t envision being a sixth man, but basketball is a team game and the team is always more important than the individual. So I just accepted the role that Coach White gave me, and to be acknowledged for my sacrifice is honoring and it’s an award I’ll cherish for sure.”
The Florida guard is second on the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game, is tied for second with 41 three-pointers and is number one in free throws, making 87.8%.
Barry decided to come to Florida as a graduate transfer from College of Charleston in hopes of making a NCAA tournament. He will accomplish that goal next week, but not before the Gators take care of business in the SEC Tournament this week. He discusses the tournament and more in the video above.
