"I didn't really expect an offer at this point," said the Dowling high school standout. "I would have not been surprised if it had come a little later, but the offer is huge to me and means a lot as it is my first SEC offer."
Gators head coach Jim McElwain offered Waggoner on his visit to Gainesville over the weekend.
"When they offered me, he just told me that he really liked my film. I was very pumped," said Waggoner. "He told me that my life, if I played for the Gators, would be filled with opportunities for me and they want me to come back this summer so that I can work with [defensive line] coach [Chris] Rumph."
Waggoner and his family spent a lot of time with the Florida head coach.
"I like him," he said. "He is a character. He is very charismatic guy, and he is good to talk to."
However, McElwain is not the only coach that impressed the Waggoners on this visit. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder was able to see Rumph in action and was impressed by the assistant.
"He is a really nice guy as well," he said. "It's nice to see a coach that gets the best out of his guys and he coached a good practice."
In addition to attending practices and talking to the coaches, Waggoner was able to tour the facilities on Saturday.
"We got to see all the facilities and what the new facilities are planning to look like. Those are going to be really nice I think. It's an exciting time for Gator Nation."
After picking up the offer on his trip to Gainesville, where does the Gators stack up among his offers?
"I'm definitely considering Florida. Right not it's hard to see where they stack up against others, because I haven't seen all the schools that I wanted to see yet. But they are definitely a school I am considering."
Gators join Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon and UCLA in the fight for the Des Moines, Iowa native. According to Waggoner, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, and Oregon are all school that are "recruiting him hard" at the moment. But he refuses to name any leaders at this point.
Along with his family Waggoner is expected to take a few more visits this week.
"Minnesota on Tuesday, Notre Dame on Friday, Ohio State on Saturday, Michigan Sunday. Later this spring I will try to get up to Oregon and maybe UCLA. Still trying to figure out my schedule this spring."
Waggoner does not have a timetable for his decision, however, he knows what he wants to see in a program before he commits to a school.
Looking at the "culture of the program, and if you feel like you fit in, and if you right in home," he said. "Once I feel that in my heart thats how I know if that the school I want to go to, or if its a school I don't want to go to."
