Scout running back Asa Martin has Florida in the lead

Asa Martin has a leader after his weekend visit to Gainesville. The Scout 300 running back has the Gators up front after his visit to see Florida. What did UF do to move them to the top spot?

Asa Martin's first trip to Florida was successful. After the Scout 300 running back visited the Gators, Martin left campus with a new leader.

"They are my leader right now," said Scout's 13th ranked running back in the 2018 class. "I liked the feel around there. It was a home/family atmosphere that I really want in a school. I know my mom was talking to [head] coach Mac [Jim McElwain] about my asthma and the weather helps with that. It was good. I really liked it.

Martin visited Gainesville with his mother and brother over the weekend. The Alabama native described the visit as "fun" due to his time with the coaches and the team.

"My relationship with [running backs] coach [Ja'Juan] Seider and getting to hang out with the players [stood out]," he said. "That was pretty cool. But getting one-on-one time with coach Seider and coach Mac was something that stood out."

Both Seider and coach McElwain had a very simple message to Martin and his family, 'we want you at Florida.'

"They are just telling me to come join the family," said the Alabama native. "They are telling me that I am the guy right now, and that I should come down and join the family. They also talked to my mom about the program since it was her first time down here."

Although this is his first time visiting Gainesville, the Austin High School playmaker is no stranger to Seider. The Florida assistant recruited Martin while he was coaching at West Virginia.

"He was recruiting me very hard from West Virginia," said Martin, "so when he went to Florida, and I already had a relationship with him, I kind of hit him up first and we got started from there."

According to Martin, Seider's willingness to recruit him once again at the SEC program is certainly something that he will remember down the line.

"That definitely says a lot about our relationship," he said,"and the way he produces running back.. I really like that as well."

His visit also allowed Martin and his mother to learn more about the man in charge of the program as well.

"I love him," said Martin about McElwain. "He is a pretty cool guy.It was very impressive what he has done in the program the last few years. I was really eager to meet him."

The visit to Gainesville was successful for the Martin family, but that does not mean he is going to rush to any decisions without exploring his options.

" Auburn and Michigan are right behind them," said Martin. "I am trying to get up to Michigan pretty soon before spring ball ends, and I am going to Auburn April 8 for A-Day."

Martin is planning to early enroll in his chosen school, however, he does not know when he wants to make a decision.

"Right now it's just whenever I get that feeling. Right now I am going to take a few more visits and see a couple of more visits. I'm not sure when the time will be right."

He does have a few conditions before he commits as well.

Looking for a "school that fits my style, home-type atmosphere and a school that my mom is comfortable with."
