Florida assistant Kerry Dixon was in Texas last week evaluating talent, stopping by several schools in the Longhorn State including Marshall High School. After spending some time in Missouri City, Tx. Dixon wasted no time in extending an offer to Scout 250 offensive lineman Barton Clement.
"Barton Clement is a great offensive guard prospect in the state of Texas for 2018," said Scout Analyst Gabe Brooks. Clement "moves well laterally for a player already north of 300 pounds... Overall, Clement is expected to be among the top interior offensive line prospects in the state of Texas for the 2018 recruiting cycle."
"I have schools that I have longer relationships with but ever since I got Florida, it kind of swayed my decision," said Clement. "[This offer] is big time because Florida is a really good school not only academically but also athletically."
In the last week, Clement has already established a good relationship with the Florida wide receivers coach, who is his main recruiter.
"He is a relaxed and chill guy," Clement said about Dixon. "He says he enjoys the way I move on the field. He wants me to come to visit them anytime, whenever I have the chance."
Although Clement admits he needs to do some research on the university, and he hopes a visit to Gainesville, Fla. will clarify a few things. However, he is confident that Jim McElwain and his staff have the program moving in the right direction.
"I know one of these years they are going to win the National Championship again," he said. "They are a top football team in the country and they have a good school."
However, Clement is not only focused on learning more about the football program at Florida, but also the academic programs as well.
"I know that they have a pretty good engineering school, but I want to know more."
Clement plans on studying either mechanical or chemical engineering in college, and hopes by visiting Oklahoma, Florida and Auburn in the summer, he will be able to learn more about each school's respective programs.
"I don't know much about them but I'm looking forward to see if they are going to be a good fit. Just go around and see how everybody interacts with each other as well."
So how exactly did the Gators offer change things for Clement?
"Narrowed it down to three. A & M, UT and Florida," he said.
Clement plans to make a decision either just before his season or during it.
