It's been a busy couple of weeks for Florida football and recruiting. Here are just some of the top headlines surrounding the program and its top targets.
Back on the Market
Dameon Pierce is back on the market. The running back from Georgia decommitted from Alabama and Florida is a school in the running to land the top playmaker from the Peach State. Of course Georgia will certainly be the heavy favorite. Pierce visited the in-state school for the spring game, however, he also visited the Gators a few short weeks before. Obviously a visit to Gainesville is a must to change the trajectory here. Pierce and Asa Martin are no doubt the two running backs Florida are looking at right now.
Although Florida would not like anything more but to add Pierce do not sleep on Jashaun Corbin. Like Pierce, the in-state running back also reopened his recruitment when he decommitted from Tennessee. Although in this case, Florida State seems to be the school in the driver's seat.
Reuben Unije is expected to be on campus this weekend. The top offensive lineman from IMG Academy has visited Gainesville several times previously and it's safe to say the Gators should feel good about where things stand at the moment. Unije most recently visited Tennessee.
Mark Your Calendars
June 2nd is Florida's first summer camp of the season. The Gators will hold a 7-on-7-camp and an OL/DL camp. Last season this camp saw some of UF's top targets visit and expect a few familiar names to be on campus as well. We will have an in-depth look at the expected visitors soon.
Here are other names to keep a watch on this summer, as they are expected to make trips to The Swamp to visit in the next few months.
As you read earlier this week in our story (CLICK HERE FOR THE STORY) Kardell Thomas wants to visit this summer. The LSU 2019 offensive lineman pledge will not be easy to flip away from the Tigers, however, the Gators have done well getting involved. UF offensive line coach Brad Davis is one guy making the right moves with him.
Dante Stills is another name to watch this summer. The four-star defensive tackle from West Virginia also expects to visit this summer. The defensive lineman originally did not name Florida in his top six, however, with Ja'Juan Seider in the mix, as Florida's new running backs coach, a former West Virginia assistant, Stills has rapidly moved the Gators up on his list. A visit in the summer is a move in the right direction.
Warren Thompson has visited campus several times throughout his recruitment, however, this visit could determine how the rest of his recruitment shapes up. At this time, the Gators are on the outside looking in. The Armwood wide receiver has named four schools on top, Florida State, UNC, Oregon and Alabama. He is expected on campus on June 3rd and he will also visit other schools during that week: Florida State, Tennessee and South Carolina.
Top offensive lineman Christian Armstrong also expects to return to Gainesville this summer before making any more decisions about his recruitment. Brad Davis has done an excellent job moving Florida back up in Armstrong's mind. (CLICK FOR FULL STORY HERE). The Scout 300 offensive tackle is schedule to visit Penn State on Saturday-another school in the mix. Florida State is another school to watch with his recruitment.
Armstrong is not the only offensive tackle to look out for, Scout 300 offensive tackle Rasheed Walker is also another name to look out for this summer. Walker has Penn State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Maryland and Rutgers in his top six. Although the Gators did not make the cut, he told Scout Analyst Brian Dohn, he is trying to take a trip to see Florida.
Without even a visit, Florida jumped up as a top school for Barton Clement. The top offensive lineman from Texas named Florida, Texas A&M and Texas in his top three. Clement told Scout he is hoping to visit UF this summer. A visit could very well help UF move things away from those two in-state schools, although it will not be an easy feat, Florida has a good chance to turn the tide. (FULL STORY)
The last name I am going to touch on in this edition is Quay Walker. Although the four-star linebacker has not visited Florida yet, the Gators are on his mind. This will not be easy, but getting on him campus will be step one and making up ground. Walker told me he is planning to get down to Gainesville soon. UF is among the schools Walker has standing out at this time, FULL STORY HERE
These are just some of the names to watch out for this summer, obviously there will be plenty of other names that will visit especially during Friday Night Lights in late July.
