Gators Overall #3 Seed and Regional Set

The Florida Gators (42-16) were announced as the No. 3 overall seed for the NCAA Baseball Tournament that will get underway this week and the Gators will host Marist (32-21), Bethune-Cookman (33-23), and South Florida (41-14) in the Gainesville Regional.

Despite exiting the SEC Tournament with a resounding 16-0 loss to Arkansas, the Gators maintained a very high third ranked RPI and that ranking was spot on in the eyes of the tournament selection committee.

Florida as the top seed in the Gainesville Regional will play Marist (4) in their first matchup, while the South Florida Bulls (2) will take on Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (3).  The Gators lost to USF just three weeks ago in Gainesville by a score of 15-10. USF is currently No. 22 in RPI, BCC is No. 72, and Marist comes in at 109.

For the first time in a long while, the Gators would not match up with another Florida squad in the Super Regional if they make it that far. The Gators usually get matched with Florida State or Miami for Super Regional pairings, but Miami missed the tournament for the first time in decades and Florida State, while hosting a Regional is set to travel to Texas Tech if both schools win their Regionals.

While seeded very high and finishing the season winning 16 of their last 19 games. The Gators are just 12-11 against the different teams in the field including losing records against Auburn (1-3), Arkansas (0-1), Florida Gulf Coast (0-2), and USF (0-1).

The Gators do have winning records against Vanderbilt (2-1), LSU (2-1), FSU (3-0), Kentucky (2-1), and Mississippi State (1-0).

The Regional this weekend will be a double elimination format. If Florida wins, they would host the Super Regional the following weekend. Stay tuned for dates and times.
