The speedy tailback from Houston Sam Houston is becoming a "hot" property.
When you think of pure "speed" backs in the state of Texas, Edorian McCullough and D'Bryan Blanton may first come to mind, but don't forget about the "blur" from Houston Sam Houston, John Johnson. Top recruiters certainly aren't.
After rushing for 1,494 yards on 177 carries with 29 touchdowns as a junior, Johnson has already ran for 567 yards on 64 carries and eight scores this season. Saturday night, he had a game most tailbacks just dream about, rushing for 323 yards on 22 carries with four touchdowns, not including an 85-yard kickoff return for another score. Johnson accounted for every single point in a 30-26 win over Houston Furr.
And the people that count are noticing.
"I've talked to Texas, Florida, LSU, Arkansas, Arizona and Colorado," Johnson said Monday night. "And all have offered."
He was asked about favorites.
"I like Florida," he said very quickly. "Then it would be LSU."
Johnson is just as impressive in the classroom, currently carrying a 3.3 GPA.
"I will be taking my ACT next month," he said.
He's also posted a 10.21 in the 100m, 20.8 in the 200m and anchors their 4x1 relay team.
John said he's looking forward to Friday night, when they take on LB/DE Hosea Atkinson and Houston Washington.
"They also have a good tailback in Marcellus Brown," he said. "It should be a great game."
