CB Favors Gators, Canes

Last year, it was a recruiting battle between Florida and Miami for Jacksonville (Fla.) Ed White standout CB Dee Webb. This season, Ed White has another standout corner and it looks to be a Gator/Cane battle once again.

One of the top cover corners from the state of Florida is Dawayne Grace from Jacksonville (Fla.) Ed White High School. Grace, 6-1 and 172 pounds, runs in the 4.4 range.

"I have a knack for the ball and making plays," Grace said. "I just use my speed out there."

Ed White was the home of one of the most coveted defensive backs last season with Demetrice Webb (Florida). The Gators just edged out the Hurricanes for Webb. Will it be the same for Grace?

"Right now, Florida and Miami are my two leaders. I grew up liking Miami and they were always my favorite team. Florida is right down the street and I really like the coaching staff. They are very down to earth and remind me of the staff at Ed White. I also like Tennessee. I have not been there yet but it sounds like a great place."

Grace and Webb have many similarities as players. Like Webb, he is one of the top cornerback prospects in Florida. And like Webb, he also plays quarterback for Ed White. For now, he is injured and Grace hopes to get back on the field soon.

"Someone rolled on my ankle in week two and I got a high ankle sprain. I missed the game Friday and I am hoping to play this weekend."

As a junior, Grace had four interceptions. According to Grace, he has 15-20 scholarship offers including ones from Florida, Miami, FSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Maryland.
