Hawthorne QB Talks Recruiting
"Oh no," Ingram said. "I shoot my jump shots everyday after practice. I have to because I can't lose it. I can't. There is too much riding on it and basketball means too much to me. I can't lose my game. Football practice ends for me around 6:30 and then it's off to the gym for jump shots. I will shoot from anywhere to an hour to two and a half to three and a half hours every day."
Make no mistake about it, football is just as important to Mr. Ingram. All he has done this season is lead his team to a 4-0 record and a No. 4 ranking in Class 1A in Florida. All that matters to Ingram is winning.
"We are doing alright and I am playing well. I don't have those big numbers but I really don't care because all I want to do is win and be that field general for my team. I want us to be a contender.
"But I have improved since last season. I feel stronger, faster and smarter. The main thing is my mind set for the position, for being a quarterback. I am the team leader and I really didn't know how much my teammates depend on me until this season. But that is what a quarterback is supposed to do, be the leader."
So far this season, Ingram has taken unofficial visits to Florida for both the Tennessee and Florida A&M games. He has not yet set up any official visits and doesn't plan to for a while. But he has narrowed it down to five schools.
"Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and North Carolina are the teams I really like right now. I still want to play both sports and we'll see what happens after the season."
Basketball is obviously a key factor for Ingram. In fact, he had a surprise visit with Florida Basketball Head Coach Billy Donovan on Monday night.
"We talked for about 90 minutes and just cleared the air. He had heard that I didn't like Florida because they had not offered me in basketball. Coach Donovan didn't know that Florida offered me in football. He knows I want to play basketball as well as football. So we just cleared things up. Let me just say this, I like what I heard from Coach Donovan and things look good for Florida right now. But, I don't have a leader at this time. I am pretty open with everything."
