"He could have had 250 or 260," Zook said. "The offensive line had some holes there. He could have gotten more."
Considering their past, though, don't think the coach is complaining. Following the Gators' win in Kentucky, Fason threatened to transfer when he wasn't getting much playing time.
Eventually, the pair made peace and the sophomore made progress. Fason has 539 yards on 72 carries for an average of 7.49 yards per carry.
Nonetheless, Zook steered clear of saying if Fason would see any more carries -- or a start -- against FSU.
"I don't think that's a big deal," Zook said. "He may start the game. I'm not concerned about that. It doesn't matter who starts. They're all going to play. We've proven that we need them all."
Florida convened for the first practice of its bye week Tuesday, as the Gators went through the first of two scheduled workouts. The team will break after today's practice until Monday when preparations for Florida State will begin.
Zook said he warned his players about making it to all of their classes, but he also stressed the importance of relaxing.
"They need to get away from it," Zook said. "That's what I told them. I'm really excited about practice tonight, and we had a great meeting today. When it comes time, they're going to be focused."
While DT Marcus Thomas continues to make progress as a backup defensive end, Zook said coaches have discussed using the 6-foot-4, 285-pound true freshman as a fullback.
However, Thomas likely won't be utilized as an offensive player against the Seminoles. Despite his versatile athleticism, coaches want him to focus on his defensive progress.
"We talked about that for short yardage situations," Zook said. "But we feel like his plate is full right now. I'm not saying that won't happen in the future, but I think with all the things he's involved in, he's got plenty."
Zook may have been the first college head coach to be graced with his very own fire(insertcoachhere).com Web site. But he won't be the last. A South Carolina fan launched firelouholtz.com recently, adding to the continued trend. "Was I the first?" Zook said. "That's like the in thing right now, isn't it? The guy won 250 games. Jeese." ... Several Gators will use the open date to recover from nagging injuries and illnesses. However, TB Ran Carthon (flu) was the only Gator to sit out of practice. The senior, who has been plagued by injuries in recent weeks, struggled during Saturday's win against South Carolina, as he gained just three yards on two carries with one fumble. LB Channing Crowder (sore shoulder), TB DeShawn Wynn (bruised thigh) and TB Ciatrick Fason (sore shoulder) all practiced
