TE Talks About UF Visit

Rory Nicol is one of the nation's most sought after tight ends and this week he visited the University of Florida for an official visit. I just caught up with Nicol and he talks about his visit and more.

Rory Nicol is the nation's No. 2 rated tight end prospect. Nicol, from Beaver, Pennsylvania, has a busy month ahead of him. He spent last weekend visiting Pittsburgh and the last two days in Gainesville visiting the Gators. Over the next week, he will take three more official visits to Ohio State (12-5), Georgia Tech (12-9) and Virginia (12-12).

"I just walked in the door from Florida," Nicol said. "That's big time football down in Florida. The weather was great and the guys on the team were great. In the two days I was down there I already felt like one of the guys because there's a real family atmosphere with them. My host (Mike DeGory) was great and he showed me a good time.

"Coach (Ron) Zook is a player's coach. We watched my film together and he was already coaching me. Then we would walk around and he was like a father figure. I also had a good talk with Mr. (Jeremy) Foley. Overall, they just did a great job of presenting everything from athletics to academics."

One thing that may be an advantage to the Gators is the tight end situation. Ben Troupe graduates and there are not too many bodies at this position on UF's squad.

"They shot straight with me. I know they are recruiting a JUCO tight end (Markell Thompson) and they were completely honest with me about that there situation at that position. That's fine with me because this guy might be more ready than me next season. I understand all that. I also talked with Ben Troupe one on one and he's a very humble guy. There is nothing negative I could say about the visit to Florida."

Nicol was originally scheduled to visit the Gators over the weekend for the FSU game. Instead, he visited Pittsburgh. It was not the first time he has been to Pitt.

"I have been there a ton. It was another very good trip. I really like coach (Walt) Harris. Location is great because it is close to home. But location is not a factor for me because my father works for an airline. Pitt. is in the mix. Right now I am wide open. I hope to have a decision around the 20th (of December).

Nicol, 6-5 and 240 pounds, caught 19 passes for 5 touchdowns.
