The Gators are looking for tight end help and they got a commitment from Junior College tight end/ defensive end Markell Thompson.

The Florida Gators are desperate for tight end help with Ben Troupe graduating. They are recruiting a number of high school prospects and got some junior college help this weekend with the commitment of Markell Thompson from SW Mississippi. Thompson, 6-6 and 280 pounds, actually played defensive end there, recording 74 tackles, 21 QB hurries, 11 tackles for a loss and 5 sacks this season.

"I did commit to Florida," Thompson said. "I love the environment there and I got along with all the players and coaches. I also felt comfortable in Gainesville.

"I will play tight end and to me it really doesn't matter so as long as I can play. I have good hands and good feet. I am quick off the ball and can use my height to my advantage. They're losing Ben (Troupe) and he is a very good player. I have some big shoes to fill. There is no doubt about that."

Thompson is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He didn't sign with anyone out of high school but Wisconsin tried to get him this time.

"It was hard because Coach (Barry) Alvarez recruited me in high school and they kind of stayed in touch."

Thompson will sign with the Gators on Wednesday and enroll in January.
