Joiner Talks Gators

Better late than never in catching up with the elusive Tony Joiner from Haines City, Florida. Joiner talks about the impact of freshmen at Florida this season and how that affected his decision to commit to the Gators.

Tony Joiner was the second high school commitment for Head Coach Ron Zook and the Florida Gators. Joiner, a strong safety from Haines City, Florida, committed to the Gators two weeks ago.

"A big reason why I committed to Florida was all the young guys that are playing and stepping up," Joiner said. "Look at (Chris) Leak and (Channing) Crowder and some of the other younger guys and there's a lot. Those guys are good. It seems to me like they are on a verge of a dynasty in a few seasons. That made my decision easy because I want to be a part of that.

"I see myself playing strong (safety) and Kyle (Jackson) playing free (safety). Coach Locksley always said that an offer from Florida would come once they got film. Right after they got my tape they offered. They have shot straight with me from the beginning and I respect that."

Joiner will officially visit Florida on January 30th. He is also slated to visit LSU (1-16) and NC State (1-23).

"I am still committed but I want to make a few trips just to make sure."

One thing for Joiner is he knows that he will have the same opportunity that Leak and Crowder had as freshmen in Gainesville and he knows the opportunity is great.

"Coach Locksley said that if I come there and work hard and do the right things that I can play next season. I know nothing is giving and I know I will have to work hard for it. I like that."
