UF Class Breakdown - QB

UF signed one quarterback prospect last week, Cornelius Ingram. Here, I breakdown this position and Ingram's game in the first position installment of Florida's top 10 recruiting class.
Coming Monday - Running back/ Fullback

With Ingle Martin transferring from the University of Florida this suddenly become a big need for the Gators. Lets face it, with Chris Leak only being a freshman and a talented freshman at that, they had to sign another blue-chip signal caller. UF had a fight on their hands with South Florida for Cornelius Ingram but in the end he decided to stay home and go to Florida. Ingram wants to red-shirt to make the adjustment easier. Plus, he's going to play college basketball as well for Billy Donovan.

If given the proper time to develop as a QB, Ingram has a tremendous upside. He is blessed with great athleticism, a big arm and unbelievable leadership skills. And lets face it, he will not be rushed into the fire with Leak ahead of him on the depth chart. Ingram is rough around the edges but has a chance to become an outstanding college football quarterback. Ingram is a part of TheInsiders.com National Hot 100 players in the country.

What his coach said -
"Cornelius had a super career for us. He has been unbelievable. Cornelius is such a great athlete and an even better leader. As a quarterback he can throw all the passes that you look for in a college and NFL quarterback. He also has pinpoint accuracy like Tom Brady. That's the best thing he does and he also has a great pocket presence."

The Stats
500 yards rushing (10 TDs), 1400 passing (15 TDs)

My take?
UF needed a quarterback and they got one with some great upside. With Martin leaving it was imperative they land Ingram. I don't like the idea of Ingram playing two sports. He is raw with so much potential. The off-season could be spent on working with Leak, learning the position and the offense, working with coaches, rather than shooting jumpers. But in today's day you have to give the two-sport start his chance and Ingram is a fine hoops player.

Ingram is obviously athletic and could possibly find his way to another position like receiver. And he may grow frustrated at the fact of playing behind Leak and Justin Midgett for four years. Of course no one knows what will ultimately happen and you have a heck of an athlete that is also a terrific leader in Cornelius Inrgam.
