Q&A with Jonathan Tucker

The boys of summer are in full swing and FightinGators.com sought out one of its leaders for a few words on the team, especially two-sport star QB Gavin Dickey. Gator Second Basemen Jonathan Tucker sounded off on the team, Dickey's football status and what it is going to take to reach Omaha.

FightinGators. Coming from De La Salle, California a predominantly football school, why Gainesville?
Jon Tucker. "I was recruited by the previous coach, Andy Lopez, and he ended up getting fired the summer I was coming in. I still decided to honor my scholarship because I felt like Gainesville was the perfect fit for me."

FG. What are your expectations for this season?
JT. "I think for every season the championship is the ultimate goal. I don't think it is any different this year. I think this year, more than any, we are loaded with potential."

FG. How has the addition of Gavin Dickey been to the team?
JT. "He has been pretty good for team chemistry. He is an exceptional athlete who will be expected to contribute in a big way."

FG. Has Dickey mentioned anything about Spring Practice and his position on the team?
JT. "Well he is definitely a speedster who has been putting on some weight. He told me he would be trying to crack himself into the secondary rotation and that he wants to be an impact special team's player."

FG. Word Association
Pat McMahon- "Mastermind"
Gainesville- "Warm"
De La Salle- "Athletic Perfection"
Gator Baseball 2004- "Omaha"

FG. What is it going to take for this team to reach Omaha?
JT. "It is going to take us all getting hot and peaking at the right time."

FG. Who has been the team's biggest rival to date?
JT. "For me it has really been Miami. They eliminated us last year, so we are all hoping to get some revenge. Since I have been at UF that has been the team that we have wanted to beat the most, not only in baseball, but I root against Miami in every sport."
