(Crowder has gotten rid of his cornrows, and, is now sporting the Detroit Pistons' Ben Wallace look).
===========BITS & PIECES============
**Coach Zook on Junior TE Markell Thompson: "I think Markell Thompson is learning what to do. You go back to our first spring (in 2002), we had Ben Troupe and Aaron Walker, and, we weren't instilling an offense like we have this spring…because, obviously, everything was new. This spring we've come in, and, we've --- (makes a loud sound of a jet taking off) --- we've put it all in. So, Markell has really kind of had to one or double. I think, for the most part, he's done really a nice job. He's such a nice guy. He comes out with a big smile on his face…he doesn't understand that it's a little bit more serious…but, he will. I'm really proud of the way he's picked stuff up."
**Coach Zook on Senior OL Ron Dowdy: "I'm really happy and proud of Ron," said Coach Zook. "He was on offense two years ago…then, we moved him to defense. He's just kind of bounced around. He's an athletic guy. It's his last year, and, he's going to play a lot of football for us."
**The progression of Junior RB Ciatric Fason so far this spring seems just fine. "I'm just trying to go out there and play hard. We went 8-and-5 the last two years. By me being a junior, I just want to go out…have a good year rushing. Hopefully, we can get a lot of victories," said Fason.
**Junior FS Jarvis Herring was a demon on Tuesday. He picked-off Chris Leak from a ball thrown up the middle through a crowd. Then, later, he turned on his stereoscopic vision, and, bolted across the field, to slap away a bullet thrown by Chris Leak.
**Sophomore WR Reggie Lewis made a couple great plays. On a sweet reverse, he scampered for a 25-yard gain. On another play, he sprinted to the left corner of the end zone, and, snagged a perfect 40-yard pass from Leak.
**Junior WR Kyle Morgan was on the receiving end of a fantastic throw by Freshman QB Justin Midgett, who threw into triple coverage toward the sideline. Morgan hauled-it-in for an impressive 20-yard gain, and, he managed to keep both feet inbounds.
**Sophomore WR O.J. Small is still helping out with coaching duties from the sideline as his hand heals. He did, however, catch some balls that were mildly thrown, that, he then handed to his coach to continue the receiver squad's drill. "It's getting better. It's not healed, but, it's looking a lot better than it was. The bone inside has healed. I took X-Rays the other day, and, the doctor said I should be good. But, they're holding me out, because, they want it to completely heal." Small said that, even though he hasn't practiced all spring, he still knows the offensive system. "I'd say it's about the same (as last season). Our tempo has picked up a lot. But, it's not too much of a big difference. We may get the plays a little bit quicker now, but, I'd say it's about the same." Small is taking not practicing pretty well. He must be anxious to participate, because, during practice, I saw him do a ‘pirouette' with a big smile on his face.
**Sophomore CB Nick Brooks, who has a bruised bone in his knee, should be able to go tomorrow (Wednesday), said Coach Zook. "If not tomorrow, he'll hopefully play in the spring game (on Saturday)."
**Senior OL Taveres Washington has a hurt patella tendon again, which is something he's done before. Coach Zook said that he's going to be OK. But, isn't sure he'll be able to go in the spring game or not."
**Freshman DT Mike Hill didn't dress or practice on Tuesday. He had his left arm in a sling.
**The Orange & Blue Game is set for this Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field. Kick-off is at 1pm. Of course, all Gator fans are invited!
Tuesday's Trivia Question: Name the three teams that Ron Zook had coached with during his six seasons in the NFL? (Hint: 2 AFC teams & 1 NFC team).
