1st Big Offer for OL Alabama OL Prospect

Andrew McCain is an offensive line prospect from Briarwood Christian that is receiving a lot of interest from several schools. McCain has also picked up his first big time offer.

"I have received my first offer from Florida. Coach Wickline came by my school and wanted me to call him. I called him, and he told me they wanted to go ahead and offer me a scholarship. I also received the offer in the mail a few days ago," Andrew McCain said. "Florida wants me as a tight end. I don't really have vast experience at tight end. I will play a good bit at tight end this year," McCain added.

McCain went to Oxford for the Rebels' spring game and said, "I like Ole Miss a lot. Coach Hobby is a super guy and so is Coach Cutcliffe. They are both straight forward with you. The campus is really nice. The players are nice as well."

McCain also tripped to Notre Dame's spring game. "Notre Dame was awesome. It is a really nice place. They have all kinds of tradition. Coach Willingham is an awesome guy and the players are all very well spoken," McCain replied.

With a score of 31 on the ACT and a score of 1300 on the SAT, Notre Dame had another aspect that impressed McCain. "They (Notre Dame) stress academics and I really like that. It was just a great experience," added McCain.

With one impressive SEC offer in hand, McCain is not ready to name favorites. "At this point, I'm wide open. I'm going to keep my eyes and ears open and weigh it out the next six or seven months. There are all kinds of opportunities out there for me," McCain said.

Currently, McCain is considering Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Notre Dame and Ole Miss. He has a slight interest in North Carolina and Duke.

With spring training in session for most schools and college coaches on the road evaluating prospects, Briarwood Christian is one hot spot for coaches from all over the country.

McCain stated, "Coach Wick from Florida has come by and one coach from Duke has been here. Coach Miles from Notre Dame is going to be here sometime this week. Coach Hobby from Ole Miss is coming. Coach Yancey has told us several college coaches will be coming by this spring."

Spring training has started for Briarwood and McCain said, "We began last Thursday and took Friday off. Monday, we had our first day in full pads. We will have an intersquad scrimmage this Saturday. I don't think we are going to have a spring game with anyone."

McCain has not finalized his summer camp plans. "I'm not sure where I will go but I will probably try and camp at all the schools I'm considering right now," McCain added.

McCain has been working-out at a local (Birmingham) sports center that has built a strong reputation for working with athletes from across the south. The main focus is speed. This is proving to be a great move by McCain. "I have been timed at 4.8 three times, so it is legit," McCain added.
