Gators play Ole Miss in key SEC series

The sixth ranked Gators play yet another key Southeastern Conference series this weekend against #18 Ole Miss in Gainesville. Florida (37-15, 16-8) will try to extend their one game Eastern Division lead over Georgia, who travels to the plains to take on Auburn. South Carolina, who trails Florida by two games will battle Tennessee in Columbia.

Florida holds a narrow advantage all-time against the Rebs, 34-31. The host has benefitted in recent history. Last season Ole Miss kicked the Gators around Oxford for a three game sweep. Two years ago, Florida took two of three in Gainesville, while the Rebels swept the Gators in Oxford in 2001.

Ole Miss hopes to set the tone on Friday night by throwing SEC Pitcher of the Week Mark Holliman (7-2) The sophomore right-hander threw a three hit shutout last weekend against #11 Arkansas. Holliman struck out seven Razorbacks, while not allowing a base runner past first base. He also didn't allow a walk. Holliman enters the contest with a 2.33 ERA and opponents are batting .237 against him.

The Rebels come into the contest batting .305. Stephen Head ranks fourth in the conference in batting with a .370. He also leads Ole Miss in slugging percentage (.615), RBI's (47), hits (71) and total bases (118). Barry Gunther is 10th with a .356 average.

The Friday night contest starts at 6:30pm at The Mac
