BASKETBALL: Kitchen trims list of schools to 3

The state of Florida seems to have an unusual bit of top talent this year in regards to high Division I basketball talent. Derwin Kitchen, a combo guard out of Jacksonville, Raines High School is among the stars that are drawing interest from SEC and ACC powers.

He has attended camps including those at Virginia Tech and Florida, and also was a star on the AAU circuit. As a member of National Top 100 for 2005, he certainly has his pick of schools.

We had a chance to catch up to Kitchen recently. When asked about his favorite schools, he said, "Yeah I have three favorites now, and I am going to call the others and tell them there are just three. They are Florida, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech."

He proceeded to tell us what he liked about each of these schools.

On Florida: "Well, I really have a good relationship with all the coaches at Florida. They have a really good program and head coach."

Wake Forest: "They are in the ACC with very good basketball and I have built a good relationship with an assistant coach there."

Virginia Tech: "Their program is on the rise and I know one of the players on the team, Jamon Gordon."

We asked him on who was recruiting him the hardest and not showing his hand he said, "All of them."

He seemed to be genuinely tiring of the collegiate recruiting process and was adamant to limiting his finalists to 3 schools, hoping to limit the phone calls from coaches and staff. The Florida Gators are certainly a team that would like him to end all of the other phone calls now and in the future.
