RECRUITING: Carlos Thomas on where he stands

<img src= align=right> talked with WR/DB Carlos Thomas of Banneker HS in College Park, Georgia after his visit to the Florida camp last week just to see how he's doing and where he stands. The 5'11" 170 lb. speedster was one of the stars of the camp.

Carlos Thomas said this was his third individual camp and that his high school team attended the Clemson passing league. On the Florida camp he said, "I did pretty good, considering there was no one there to get me the ball." He was talking about the lack of numbers at the quarterback position at the Florida camp.

Other than camps, Carlos is staying in shape working out with his team, "We lift weights and run all week." The workouts have obviously benefited him as he was one of the top receivers in the camp. With rising stars such as O.J. Murdock, Louis Murphy, and Eric Sledge, Carlos certainly held his own.

What does he want to get out of this season? "We want to win the state championship." We like it when a guy talks team first when we ask him about his goals for the season. We had to actually press him for an individual goal -- "Well, I want to be an All-American."

Carlos at the Rising Senior Camp

Carlos will start on both sides of the ball this year, "I am going to start at free safety and receiver." and will be highly recruited for both positions. He told us at the next level most colleges are recruiting him as a receiver.

He listed 7 schools he is interested in and 4 favorites among those: Georgia Tech, Florida, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, LSU, and Oklahoma are all vying for his services. His favorites right now are: "Georgia Tech, Georgia, Florida, and Clemson."

We followed up with Carlos last Friday and learned that Carlos was visiting Georgia that day. When I talked to him on Monday and asked about it he said, "Yeah I went to Georgia and saw Coach Garner and Coach Richt." This came on the heels of the Gator camp where he said he liked the camp and liked the coaches at Florida.

So where does he stand? Carlos is a man of few words and what few he said tells us he doesn't have a favorite at the moment.
