DeMarcus De-commits

DeMarcus Johnson now says he is going to Alabama.

"I changed my commitment to Alabama," said defensive tackle Demarcus Johnson. "I just didn't have peace about choosing Florida. I got caught up in the hype of the Florida/Tennessee game. After I got back to my room, I realized I didn't make a wise decision and I needed to re-think it."

Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 292-pounder from Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summitt, Mississippi, could help fill a critical need for the Tide defense heading into the 2002 season. His junior college coach believes he may be able to even play beyond a career at Alabama.

"Demarcus is as good as anybody we have ever had," said SMCC Head Coach Dom Green. "He's a big guy that can run. He can rush the passer and he's also very strong and gets off blocks real well. Demarcus has the ability to be an NFL player."
