Darryl Gresham is a 6-3, 230 pound linebacker that plays at William Fleming HS in Roanoke, VA. His season has started out good and his team is out to a 3-1 start. He has been a big part of that success so far, as he modestly states: "It's going good, I am playing better than last year."
He has a knack for the big play and an interception and forced fumble on the season. Darryl told us that he has 50 tackles in the four games this season.
The multi-talented Gresham can play on the other side of the ball too. "I play tight end also; I have two receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown." Not wanting to leave his teammates out, Darryl said that two of his best friends were playing well this season. "My quarterback is playing well; he has thrown for over 800 yards in four games. Dwayne Finch (sp.) is playing well too, that's my strong safety."
When asked if there were any teams that have been in contact with him he replied, "Yes sir I have been talking to Florida and Tennessee. I am going to take a visit to Florida and Tennessee." But doesn't he have a verbal commitment with Virginia? "Yes, it's just a verbal."
On the Gators he continued, "I just like their program. I talked to the coaches down there and I just like what's going on." Has he watched them play yet? "I saw the Florida / Tennessee game."
When does Gresham plan on visiting the Gators? "Right now I don't know, but it will be during the season." He added about Tennessee, "My visits to both will be coming up soon."
What are the things he is most looking for in a school? "I'm really looking to feel at home, because I have to spend four years there." What kind of major does he intend to pursue at his college of choice? "I like psychology, then again, I like communications and business." School doesn't seem like it will be a problem and is a priority for the all-star linebacker. Gresham said, "School is going real well, I got my first mid-term and got all B's this semester. I have taken my SATs, so everything is going as planned.
It looks like the Cavs and a couple of other schools are going to have to anticipate their final shot at Gresham. When will that final shot come? "My decision will come around signing day. He continued to insist that he is still with the Cavs, "I am verballed to Virginia." But, "I am weighing my options."
The Gators are certainly doing their share of working the recruiting trails. Giving up on committed players is not going to happen, especially when players are as talented and needed as badly as Darryl Gresham.
