RECRUITING: Update on Spencer Adkins

One of the most sought after linebacker prospects in the country is Naples HS (FL) standout Spencer Adkins. The southwest Florida All Star was on everyone's wish list early on in the recruiting season and now has a list of four that may possibly earn his services come next football season. His team is undefeated so far this season and ranked number one in 5A. He spoke somewhat modestly about the season so far: "It is going well, we are 6-0. I think I have lived up to expectations." His Naples team plays this week against rival Barron Collier HS.

What does Adkins think he does the best on the gridiron? "Probably just getting to the quarterback and making big plays in the backfield."

How is the scholastic part of his high school career going right now? "School is going well." He has already started taking the tests necessary to gain entrance into his collegiate choice.

The calls from all the recruiters have really died down recently. "I don't get calls as much because I have narrowed it down to four schools, Florida, FSU, Miami, and Georgia."

There are certain things he likes that all of these schools have to offer, "I like the way they play and that they will make you the best player you can be."

Adkins recently took a trip to Gainesville for his first college game of the year. "I went to the LSU game. I was wide eyed at first; I couldn't believe how loud it was. I spent the night over there." It wasn't his first trip to Gainesville though. "I have been there a couple of times; I was there for the state championship last year."

Adkins got to see every recruit's favorite host when they tour Gainesville. "I met Channing Crowder. He is kind of different from all the trouble that they claim he gets in and stuff. He didn't have much to say because they lost the game."

Adkins' relationship with some on the Florida coaching staff has also prospered "Coach Zook and Miller are recruiting me to Florida. I like them, I think I have a pretty good bond with them and they are pretty up front."

He told us that he hasn't been to any of the other college towns yet, "I have only been to Gainesville so far." Then he added, "I'm going to the Miami – Clemson game."

What is it that he is looking for in his future collegiate destination? "I am looking at depth charts and I just have to feel at home when I visit. It will be a signing day decision."

The Gators have Spencer Adkins at the top of their linebacker recruiting board. He possesses the motor and physical ability to be a dominant linebacker in the SEC. In a depth chart lacking at the position the Florida Gators would be well served to ink his name on signing day.
