With Baker's hectic schedule, he was able to fit in a couple of college football games. He said, "I went to the Florida – LSU game two weeks ago and last week I went to the FSU – Virginia game."
Of the Florida game, he was a little awestruck by the crowd at the game and the general aura of the whole game time atmosphere. "It was the loudest place I have ever been to. There is a total difference between Florida State and Florida, Florida is way louder. I had a good time when I was there."
Baker was a little less enamored with the FSU game, "It was alright. I guess it would have been better if it was a better game."
Along with the rest of the season Baker will start preparing for life after high school. His commitment to the Gators being firm, he eagerly waits his chance to contribute on the college grid iron. "I am looking forward to getting up to Gainesville next year." He also wouldn't mind bringing some company, "I am trying to nudge my teammates over to be Gators, but it isn't working."
A few colleges are still trying to sway Baker to come to their school, although most have gotten the message that Baker is and will be a Gator. "Not many coaches are calling any more." That doesn't mean the Gator staff still isn't on top of their first commitment. He shared that, "I talk to Coach Disch and Coach Zook all the time." He went on, "I love those guys, and they make me feel like I fit in."
He talked with us about what his best attributes are as a linebacker. "I think I tackle well and hit pretty hard." As good as Baker looks on recent film, he still knows he has some things that he needs to improve on to play at the next level. He was quick to add, "I need to get quicker, stronger, and faster."
Kalvin "Pig" Baker was the first commitment to the Florida Gators this recruiting season. Much like he does on the high school football field, he has stayed strong with his commitment to the Gators and will be a valuable asset to a very thin linebacker corps.
