Emmitt Smith, Arizona Cardinals Smith rushed for over 100 yards for the 78th time in his career, breaking Walter Payton's record of 77. Smith did it in spectacular fashion, rushing for 106 yards on 26 carries for 1 touchdown and adding another 30 yards on 4 receptions in the air, in the Cardinals 25-17 win over Seattle. Smith broke Payton's record on his final rush of the game, a 23 yard run off the left tackle for a touchdown, sealing the win for the Cardinals. If Smith's assurance of entrance into the Hall of Fame wasn't solidified before this performance, it certainly is now.
Jack Youngblood Award - Top Defensive Performer
Lito Sheppard, Philadelphia Eagles Sheppard led his team on defense this week with 10 tackles and an interception in the Eagles 34-31 OT win over the Cleveland Browns. Sheppard's interception at the Philadelphia 4 yard line stopped a Browns drive that had started at their own 30 yard line. His performance was a quality follow up to his 2 interception game last week.
Mr. Two Bits Award
Fred Taylor, Jacksonville Jaguars Taylor continues to show improvement every week, this time carrying 20 times for 107 yards and 5 receptions for 67 yards in the Jaguars 27-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts. He is consistently turning in better performances every week and is most certainly a major reason that the Jaguars are now in first place in the AFC South. Taylor's strong outings give the Jaguars the running game that is needed to open the pass for Byron Leftwich and the rest of the Jaguars offense.
The Red Zone
Emmitt Smith, Arizona Cardinals Smith's final carry of the game was a 23 yard touchdown run that pushed him over the 100 yard mark for the game and allowed him to break Walter Payton's rushing record for most 100 yard rushing games in a career. His touchdown put the final nail in the Seahawks coffin, effectively putting the game win out of their reach at a final score of 25-17.
I Wish I Were Back In Hogtown….
Mike Nattiel, Minnesota Vikings Nattiel is apparently very close to losing his spot on the Vikings roster due to his sub par playing performances. It has been reported Nattiel may be replaced by LB Max Yates off of the Vikings practice squad.
It appears former Gator RB Earnest Graham may be signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster from the practice squad to help replace the void left due to the injury of FB Mike Alstott. Here's hoping the best for Earnest.
