Florida Gator Football

Zook's big victory outshines Spurrier
or Florida fans who haven't had a lot of fun lately, this was a beautiful thing. They made Bobby Bowden's record 0-1 on fields with his name on them. They didn't let Chris Rix beat them with a fourth-down pass.

Gator defense paves the way
Throughout all the heartache and controversy brought on by his firing, Ron Zook never quit coaching, never quit fighting, never gave up.

Zook, Foley put off bowl talk
Athletic director Jeremy Foley said before Saturday's game that he and Ron Zook haven't spoken yet about whether Zook will coach the Gators in their bowl game.

Rix one play short of FSU heroics
The script was laid out for Chris Rix. All the ingredients for a drippy, heart-tugging ending to his Florida State career were put in front of him Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Defense stifled FSU's rush
After sitting back and letting opposing offenses dictate the action for most of the season, the Florida defense finally reversed its passive behavior and turned aggressive in the win over South Carolina a week ago.

One for Ron
Somehow, in a Florida football season that has seen a game postponed because of a hurricane, another one decided in part by an official's clock management error and a coach fired two days after losing to the worst team in the conference, this couldn't have come as a surprise.

Glory day for Bowden
On Florida State's Senior Night, it was the Seminoles' other senior, their senior citizen head coach, who received the biggest honor.

Florida coach Ron Zook got the ride of his life as the Gators celebrated where they hadn't since 1986, with a 20-13 victory over No. 10 Florida State.

Gators' Defense Doesn't Get Spooked By Seminoles
They didn't see the ghosts of Erik Ainge, Joseph Addai or Jerious Norwood on Saturday.

Zooks Bask In Victory Celebration
The joy nearly exploded out of them as their brains registered the meaning of the roar coming from above their heads.

Seminoles Unable To Convert On Second-Half Opportunities
The feeling had become all too familiar for Florida State.

Legislature Approved Changing Field's Name
The first step in the naming of Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium took place five years ago in the Florida Legislature. A bill signed into law declared the field would be named for FSU's legendary coach upon his retirement, because he didn't want it done any sooner.

First-Half Woes Continue For FSU Offense
The feeling had become all too familiar for Florida State, as the final minutes expired in the first half.

One for the Zooker
Ron Zook has one more win at Bobby Bowden Field now than Bobby Bowden does.

After weak 3rd quarter, Gators' QB responds

Zook to coach in a bowl game
Florida Coach Ron Zook indicated to players that he plans to coach the Gators in the bowl game, TB Ciatrick Fason said. However, an assistant coach said the decision still hasn't been made.

One for the coach
The smile was magnetic. But more than that, it was rare. Seldom had this been seen from Ron Zook this year. But the saga was over now, and the end to this sad story wasn't so sad after all. So, Zook, a man who soon will be unemployed soon, wore his emotions openly Saturday night, and they weren't feelings of gloom.

Anything but lame
Ron Zook, who was fired last month when the Gators were struggling, did something legend Steve Spurier couldn't - beat FSU in Tallahassee

Players show love for Zook
History will recall Ron Zook did not leave the Florida sideline of his own free will. He was, instead, carried off by his players.

Out with a bang
Maybe Ron Zook can coach 'em up after all.

Urban Meyer

Meyer has Utah unbeaten, eyes BCS
Shortly after becoming the first coach from a mid-major conference to land a BCS bid, Utah coach Urban Meyer didn't sound like he was leaving any time soon.

Florida Gator Steve Spurrier

Spurrier mum on replacing Holtz
Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier weren't saying much about the seismic coaching change that's ahead for South Carolina football.

Say it ain't so, Steve
The man wasn't here on Saturday, hasn't been here in years and probably won't return. But still, Steve Spurrier managed to wrap his presence around a game he had nothing to do with and on a day that was set aside for Bobby Bowden.
