No gray area to this year's Heisman vote
Questions I ask myself: Did you send in your Heisman Trophy vote by overnight mail or online? Actually, I almost forgot all about it. It was a little hectic around here last week and I stuck the ballot in my desk drawer at work.

Only two selected to team
A pair of Florida football players were named to the first team of the Coaches' All-Southeastern Conference team, released Monday.

Zook to be named new Illinois coach
Former Florida coach Ron Zook will be named Tuesday as Illinois' 22nd head football coach, sources told The Associated Press Monday.

Zook Will Take Over Program At Illinois
Ron Zook didn't stay fired long. The outgoing University of Florida coach will be named head coach at Illinois today at a 1 p.m. news confer- ence, a Florida source confirmed Monday. Utah coach Urban Meyer will be introduced as UF's coach today at a 4 p.m. news conference.

UF's Bowl Coach Remains Unknown
The University of Florida's new coach went on national television Sunday and refused to talk about the Gators.

Urban Meyer meets his new team today, and Illinois will announce Ron Zook's hiring.
GAINESVILLE -- During a day of new beginnings, Florida and its fired coach will each launch the start of fresh chapters today.

Illinois is next stop for Zook
When Ron Zook led the Florida Gators to back-to-back Outback Bowls to play teams from the Big Ten, most of Gator Nation grumbled, fueling the discontent many fans had for Zook since the day he was hired.

Coaches, media shouldn't be voting
Stop the voting. The writers and broadcasters who cover college football have no business setting the sport's bowl agenda, and neither — Shouldn't this part be even more obvious? — do the college football coaches themselves.

Urban legends abound at UF
Belle Glade's Ray McDonald Jr. has heard many of the tales about his new coach at the University of Florida — the so-called Urban (Meyer) Legends.

Florida coach Billy Donovan, known as an excellent recruiter in basketball circles, won't take any credit for helping the Gators land Urban Meyer as the new football coach. But when Donovan was asked to step in and help, he did so gladly.

Is dominance over for Gators?
It was the season of streak stoppers. Florida's volleyball and soccer teams saw a multitude of amazing streaks and records end this fall. The final streak crumbled Saturday night in Tallahassee when Mary Wise's volleyball team failed to advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 14 years after a 3-2 loss to Stanford.

Roberson stays at point guard
It was his most mistake-filled stretch of the season, and it came at a bad time. Still, Florida coach Billy Donovan wasn't ready to throw starting point guard Anthony Roberson under the bus.

Gators fall out of poll after loss to Miami
Last weekend's upset loss to Miami dropped Florida out of both Top 25 polls on Monday, the first time the Gators have been unranked this season.

Non-conference foes rough up SEC
Blame sluggish play. Blame an overrated conference. Blame the desire to boost RPI rankings by scheduling competitive non-conference schedules.
