RECRUITING: Derrick McPhearson recommits to UF

Derrick McPhearson, a wide receiver prospect that signed with Florida last season but failed to qualify, will re-sign with the University of Florida. McPhearson, 6-1 and 195 pounds, is from Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic High School and he attended Fork Union Military Academy this past fall. Last season McPhearson was part of the Scout.com National Top 100 and was rated as the 10th best wide receiver in the nation.

His senior year he recorded 41 receptions for 1,020 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also returned two kicks for touchdowns. McPherson has recently visited Nebraska and will still visit Maryland this weekend.

* Here is what Derrick McPhearson told Miller Safrit of Scout.com

"I signed with Florida last season and I am still committed to them right now, although I may still make a visit or two."

* Here is what Scout.com East Recruiting Analyst Miller Safrit says about McPhearson -

"Derrick is a tremendous receiver with blazing speed. He has good size too. Derrick has the physical ability to play next season at Florida. He was certainly one of the most sought after wide receivers in the East last season."

* Here is what Scout.com National Recruiting Analyst Jamie Newberg says about McPhearson

"Derrick is very similiar to Florida wide receiver Andrew Caldwell. He has good size and is very explosive. Derrick is just a big play kid with legitimate 4.4 speed. He can score from anywhere on the field. Derrick is also a terrific athlete and was a draftable baseball prospect back in June."
