"I talked to one coach [Hevesy]," said Duke Robinson. "We talked about how it is down there, the facilities and all that. We talked about the positions. He's a cool guy."
It seems that Coach Hevesy is recruiting Duke as a guard and not as a tackle like most other programs. Robinson's says that his forty-yard dash time is down to 5.0 from the listed 5.7. If true, that must certainly be a factor in Hevesy's ideas for lineman. It remains to be seen if playing guard over tackle will make a difference in his recruitment. While OU and UGA are the leaders for Robinson, the Gators are hoping to make a big impression on the Georgia lineman. With several offensive linemen departing next year, a road grater like Robinson would be a very welcome addition to a young, but powerful Gator line that already has commitments from top linemen Eddie Haupt and Ron Wilson.
Robinson is scheduled to take two more visits in January: one to the Gators and one to Fayetteville to visit Houston Nutt and the Razorbacks of Arkansas. Robinson has one remaining visit and says that may be to UCLA or to Mississippi State. Robinson is scheduled to come to Gainesville on the second weekend in January with another offensive line recruit, Simon Codrington.
"I'm looking for a school where the coach is going to be there for four years…or at least three years," said Robinson, describing what he looks for in a school. "And, early playing time. Academically, I'm looking to major in finance."
Robinson is qualified as he recently received his passing score on his entrance exam. The coaching carousel certainly seems to favor UF at the moment with the Gator staff fully in place. Now can the new guys make up some lost ground in January?
Offensive line is a big concern for UF this year with the Gators losing several players this year and three starters next year. Having Haupt and Wilson committed is a great start, but offensive tackle shows a glaring hole for the time being. Robinson looked like he could be that guy, sporting 87 pancake blocks this season. He also said that he has never given up a sack. Hevesy must see something different in Robinson to be recruiting him at guard instead of tackle. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but it's obvious that Florida is on the outside looking in right now.
