Avery Atkins was about to bust a gut laughing when he talked about the latest rumor that has him allegedly committing to the University of Miami. According to the rumor that spread like a wildfire, Atkins, the 6-1, 185-pound cornerback out of Daytona Beach Mainland, rated five stars by Scout.com, was supposed to announce his commitment to Miami at halftime of the Cali-Florida Bowl Game at the Orange Bowl Sunday night.
Of course, the commitment never happened, leaving everyone to wonder what was going on.
"It's just a rumor," said Atkins, who remains a soft commitment to the University of Florida. "I've said all along that I was going to commit officially on Countdown to Signing Day and that's what I'm going to do."
Atkins added, "I don't know where that got started. Where that got started or even how it got started, I don't even know, but when I got that message, I was just laughing about it. That's funny!"
An in-depth interview with Avery Atkins will be posted here at GatorCountry.com on Tuesday.
